The Aqueducts at Porta Furba
When first analyzing the site, we noticed that the four aqueducts present were engaged in a complex, yet also distinctive relationship. Built at different times, each aqueduct takes on a different role, compounding across the centuries into a rigorous final product. We identified Aqua Felice as the most prominent character on the site; being built last, Felice took on the role of a parasite by leaching onto the surrounding aqueducts and jumping between their remains when convenient. One intriguing development was the formation of pocket spaces, a zone created whenever Felice made a transition. This aspect would serve as a prominent design motive throughout the rest of the semester.
