Horreo Analysis
The Horreos of Galacia, Spain are grain storage units designed locally to provide proper ventilation that counteracts the dry and often overbearingly warm temperatures that persist year long. They utilize side ventilation panels to move wind through the structure, ultimately providing the grain with a cool and controlled climate to be stored in. The Horreos are all aligned perpendicular to the wind and thereby develop a cyclone-like circulation running along the walls of the construction. The following drawings are the culmination of a two-week research project geared towards understanding structure, use, construction, adaptability, and culminating presence within the site. The investigation would yield crucial design elements to be explored and developed within my Adaptive Museum project.
