A House of the In Between
The house is shared between three siblings and their aging parents, and thus a strong family bond is present but intimacy is also desired. Each member is prescribed his/her own home or ‘tower’ within the house, though such an intimate space is still entwined with the semi-exterior domain that unites them all. The resulting ‘in-between’ is composed of thresholds, vertically and horizontally, that harbor the family’s varying levels of preferable concealment.
Composed of generously spaced wooden slats, the platforms within the public domain are penetrated by movement, sound, light and shadow; creating a truly porous space despite its various levels. The thresholds of intimacy are also at play with the nature that surrounds, as it penetrates the concrete casing and meandering with the life within.
