Icelandic Observation Tower
Linked by a bridge, an observation tower and a visitor center occupy opposing edges of the American and European seismic plates, taking on a relationship of ‘similar but not the same’. The internal organization is composed of triangular movements being confined to a rectangular boundary, thus creating an array of views and spatial opportunities. The tower is composed of a porous wood-stud enclosure which houses a meandering solid stair, while the visitor center features a ticket booth, cafe, restroom, storage room, a small library and a flexible seating area for a temporary cinema.
