Ithaca Music Hall
The Music Hall relies heavily on the features of the surrounding context of downtown Ithaca, namely the alleys formed by adjacent stores. A central alley runs through the plot, dividing the building into two volumes while a second alley defines the auditorium. The volume hugging the shops is used for practice rooms and offices while the main gallery, auditorium and accompanying amenities fill the larger volume. Connecting the two volumes and forming the structure is an intensely defined landscape of beams supporting the roof. This landscape is quintessential in defining how one experiences each volume individually and as a whole, tying the two together in language whilst also avoiding thier complete fusion.
