Sustainable Tower

This semester-long group project aimed to design a net-zero office tower in New York City using variace environmnetal analysis tools and techniques. The main focus was to conserve energy, optimize the workspace environment, while aslo maximizing the building’s overall effiecncy.

Our goal with the initial step was to fit the tower into the site and appropriately take advantage of light’s interaction with the building and its surrounding site. We wanted to preserve sunlight for the interior courtyard adjacent to the site as well as the sidewalk across the street. Given these boundaries and considering context, we developed a maximum build-out area from which to fit the eventual tower into. We then individually designed test envelopes to efficiently fit into the zone while also considering advantageous % of daylit area, PV yield, and floor area ratio.
