To Each Their Own
Any given façade in Taipei has become overrun by clutter, causing the disappearance of the balcony; a crucial design element that was formerly used to transition between the street and the home. Shining amongst the chaos are tasteful moments of individual identity, which offer insight to the personal inhabitation beyond the monotony of its context. Reintroducing the semi-private domain can generate a valuable spectrum from which individual and communal expression can begin to develop. Such a porous system is in a constant flux of openness, often creating small, intimate niches or vast, social zones. The culminating infrastructure establishes a web of personal expression and spectrum of intimacy without giving in to general clutter.
